Bt toxin protein exist as inactive protoxins but once an insect injects the inactive toxin, it is converted into active form of toxin due to the alkaline pl of the gut which solubilizes the crystals. The activated toxins binds to the surface of midgut epithelial cells & create pores that cause cell swelling & lysis, & eventually cause death of the insect.
